In a concert devoted entirely to sonatas written by Amadeous Mozart, Mao Fujita embarks on an eloquent and enchanting debut onto the Vancouver, CA classical music scene. Music Writer Gianmarco Castronovo shares highlights from a recent feature on Fujita for Vancouver Sun discussing his upcoming performance:

Although early into his journey as a professional classical pianist, Mao Fujita’s keys are already decorated with numerous honors.  Gianmarco Castronovo congratulates the musician on his 2017 Clara Haskil Competition and 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition wins.  The Japanese talent is set to make his debut in Canada on March 5, 2023 at The Vancouver Playhouse.

Japanese Pianist Mao Fujita is a newcomer in the Vancouver, CA classical music scene.  But he’s already well on his way to making quite the note.  As if making a mirror out of renowned 18th century composer Amadeus Mozart, Fujita has hand-picked select sonatas to perform in his debut at the Vancouver Playhouse on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 5 PM.  A twentysomething pianist with a lean towards the classics, Fujita is early into his musicianship.  In a reflective approach to his debut, the pianist was specifically selected to perform sonatas which Mozart created while also in his early twenties.  It’s a sense of musical kinship that Gianmarco Castronovo both admires and appreciates as a fan of classical music and avid historian.  Forging a direct connection to each piece, Fujita adds expression to his selections.  Castronovo is eager to hear the talented performer’s take on K.309, K.310, K.311 and K.333 (played in historically sequential order).
