Newport Jazz Festival is back again! Gianmarco Castronovo is excited to see the greatest musicians in modern jazz at the event. On Friday, August 4, 2023, Newport Jazz will kick off with headline performances by Joe Russo’s Almost Dead with Branford Masalis, followed by sets by DJ Pee Wee (Anderson Paak), Soulive, Domi & JD Beck, Immanuel Wilkins Quartet, Big Freedia, Alfa Mist, Butcher brown, Endea Owens & The Cookout, Lakecia Benjamin and Phoenix and Julius Rodriguez. Quite the lineup, the first day of Newport Jazz is sure to be a smash! The enthusiasm will continue on into Saturday, August 5th with performances by jazz musicians and ensemble groups Jon Batiste, Thundercat, Big Gigantic Does Jazz, Christian McBride’s Jam Jawn, Charles Lloyd New Quartet, Aroof Aftab, Vijay Iyer, Shazad Ismaily, Julian Lage, Superblue (featuring Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter with Nate Smith & Huntertones Horns), Orrin Evans Quintet, The War and Treaty, Keyon Harrold and James Brandon Lewis. And last but not least on Castronovo’s most highly anticipated day of the three-day event: August 6th will feature appearances by Herbie Hancock, Diane Krall, Samara Joy and plenty of other talented artists who are keeping the swing in jazz alive today!
