Fans of folklife music and culture: Folklife Festival is back! After a long absence brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is set to return to its beloved setting at the National Mall. Music fan and blogger, Gianmarco Castronovo shares the story:
The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is a ten-day event that shines a spotlight on the beauty and intricacies of the music and culture of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This includes seven emirates on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula: Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. In recent years, Gianmarco Castronovo has come to appreciate the unique display of artistry found at Folklife, from perfumes and Arabic calligraphy to tantalizing honey and coffee. Of course, most of all, he is drawn to the music! Castronovo looks forward to embracing the culture for all that it is, with beautiful music set as the soundtrack. Diving deeper into culture always enriches the musical experience, in this blogger’s experience.
