What’s going on with MLB Spring Training 2022? Traditionally, the day after the Superbowl marks the start of the baseball preseason. But with the lockout freeze far from thawed, baseball fans like Gianmarco Castronovo are left asking: will there be spring training this year?
Normally around this time of year, MLB players warm up with spring training sessions at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, FL. But this year, the park is looking uncomfortably empty at a time that’s otherwise lively with the excitement of the season ahead. For players and fans alike, the first pitch of spring training notes the start of the season — unofficially. But unfortunately, proposals between players, officials and the league over all are still at a standstill. On both sides of the park, there seems to be nothing but uncertainty. For both fans and players, it’s beginning to look a lot like the longest winter yet in the MLB… Gianmarco Castronovo has done some digging of his own. What he has been able to uncover is that there are rumors discussing a potential revised Spring Training schedule, which would begin in late March 2022. This is certainly hopeful, although somewhat delayed from the regular season schedule. Normally, spring training begins during the last week of February or the first week of March. But unfortunately, due to a lockout that seems unwavering, these preseason activities are currently on pause. This is a disappointment for athletes who are ready to return to the park!
